Long, long ago I experienced my first heat wave. The turkey vultures circled lazily in the sky, and the tractor kept going around in circles. No breeze mitigated the hot, hot sun staring down from a cloudless sky. It was barren and dusty. And, oh, so very hot. Yeah, I'd seen it all, temperature wise.

But then I visited Saint Louis in the summertime. And I realized just how much more I had to learn about heat.
