Remove tournaments as major site experiment ?!

Hi all

I wonder if tournaments were disabled for a few days what the impact would be on the autopairing pools ?! Would this be overall bad or good for the site ?!

The pools to be effective need more people really and the tournaments dilute the community involvement

I think the radical idea of disabling tournaments to see the full potential of the autopairing pools is worth a temporary experiment at least to see the effects

Thoughts ?!
Yes i think also more time controls could then be added etc - less 0 player startup issues or too few to be cool to go there etc . ..

Also chess960 pool
The concept relates to maximising basically 'network effects'

Perhaps if this experiment is done the tournaments menu becomes a pools menu instead
Funnily enough I've been wondering the same thing myself. It feels as though Tournaments (or as the mods call it 'Arena'), is an overlap with pools, as they were intended to work in similar ways.

Especially when you consider that Swiss tournaments are planned for down the line, the current Tournaments would simply feel excessive. But the next stage is to increase the exposure of Pools, the current issue is that they are a bit hidden. We'll try upping the exposure next, and see where that takes us.
Clarkey you could classify pools as essentially 'continuous tournaments' and put them at the top of the tournaments page maybe as a profile boost experiment ...
Accessibility is key in most situations. This is a mockup from earlier today: http://i.imgur.com/TSPLGdf.png
I'm all for anything that involves a 960 pool... ;)
